Breakfast with God

As I scurried around
Preparing for my day
No time for lagging
No time for delays

My day was rushed
With no time for food
Not even a yogurt
Or a bagel for fuel

With a break in my morning
I leapt at the chance
I ran to the counter
Seeking nourishment at last

I found a muffin
Blueberry, my favorite
Should I take a bite now
And the rest, save it

She asked, “Shall I warm it?”
And of course I said yes
I didn’t want it to be crumbly
Or to make a big mess

As I waited for the muffin
I looked around for a seat
I only had ten minutes
To eat and to relax my feet

Finally I found a spot
To gobble down my meal
So with water in hand
I headed for a real

High chair
A bar stool if you will
Peeled back the wrapping
The warmed muffin revealed

I found a fork
Didn’t want to spill a morsel
Positioning my seat
Didn’t want to appear forceful

ly rushed
for time
My head in my meal
Not mindful of what’s behind

Me was the most
Magnificent, glowing, yellow sun
So close as if to touch it
To the window I’d run

Yet my rear
Was fastened to the seat
My eyes frozen, mesmerized
By such a feat

Of God’s handiwork
What a Creator he is
He’s having breakfast, with me
Then my muffin disappears

  1. Beautiful. I love how God joins us on our journeys. He always does, but those moments when we don’t expect to see the expected… How he captures us in our routines!
